The originals
Every Totally Justified Hypocrisy edition begins as a single original painting, made slowly and by hand.
It starts with the object itself. A shopping bag or perfume bottle is photographed in the studio, lit from above so every fold, crease and reflection reads clearly. From that reference the artist paints the object in acrylic on mount board, in stylised realism, building up the gloss of the paper and the weight of the handles layer by layer. Some originals take more than thirty hours.
The wording comes last. Only once the object is finished is the familiar name replaced with something more honest, in lettering close enough to the original that your eye reads straight past it the first time. That second glance is the point.
The finished painting is then scanned at high resolution and printed as a giclée on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm, in a single edition of 125 that is never reprinted.
Where the originals are now
The existing originals are being held together for a future group show, so they aren’t for sale at the moment. To hear when and where they’ll be shown, sign up to the newsletter or get in touch.
New originals and commissions
New original paintings can be made on request, whether an object you recognise, a name you’d like questioned, or a piece for a particular space. Each one is unique and painted to the same standard as the collection.
